Cavern Diver

The Kona coast is an ideal place to train to become a Cavern Diver.  Suitable cavern zones and lava tubes are readily available. Combine this with IANTD training, great diving conditions including warm, clear water and wonderful ocean life, and you’ll see why there are compelling reasons to take this course during your visit to Hawaii. To be clear, this course is not comparable to those taught by recreational agencies. No. The IANTD Cavern Diver course is far above-and beyond that with more content and resultant operational envelope. Becoming a Cavern Diver is simply ideal for those who want to go further into tech diving, while increasing their capabilities, tools, experiences and skills. No amount of open water experience qualifies or prepares a diver for safe cavern diving. This course does.

Some of the many things you will learn are guideline placement, usage and procedures, air planning and reserves, cavern dive planning, including lights and problem solving. Expect to understand proper trim (body positioning),buoyancy control, line following and propulsion techniques. Typically we spend some time fine-tuning and/or modifying your gear to make it more streamlined and suitably safer and more appropriate for caverns. While recreational set-ups may still be used, this is usually the point where we try to point the diver towards a technical configuration. Upon successful completion of Konaquatica’s Cavern Course the diver will be certified to dive within daylight cavern zones to a maximum depth of 70 feet and130 foot linear distance from the surface, with all the understandings and skills necessary to do so safely.
